Edgewater Transfer Station closed for repairs

The Edgewater Transfer Station was closed August 30 for repairs following a fire July 19. It is expected the facility will be closed until Friday, Sept. 3.

The cause of the fire was believed to be a warm ash barrel that had been thrown into a bin with a number of propane tanks.

The fire caused some structural issues with the building around the waste bins, reported Village of Radium Hot Springs Mayor and Regional District of East Kootenay Director Clara Reinhardt.

Due to this closure, it is recommended users of the transfer station use the Brisco Transfer Station to the north or the Columbia Valley Landfill to the south.

“We will let you know late next week how our contractor TXN is making out and when the site will be re-opened,” Reinhardt said on social media.

“Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to complete these necessary repairs.”
