Expect delays on KNP Highway 93

Travellers on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park (KNP) can expect to come upon two separate construction zones this summer.

KNP Continental DivideThe first construction zone is located between the Continental Divide day use area and Marble Canyon day use area, and the second zone is located between the Hector Gorge viewpoint and McLeod Meadows.

Paving and safety improvements are expected to run from mid-July and continue to the end of October, Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m.to 7 p.m.

Weekend travellers sigh of relief time: no work is scheduled on Sundays or long weekends. Expect speed reduction zones, occasional single lane alternating traffic and delays of up to 30 minutes throughout project duration.

KNP93Rock blasting at a location approximately one km north of the Marble Canyon Campground will be required as part of this project, Parks Canada reported.

At this location, motorists should anticipate delays of up to 90 minutes between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, for approximately a two-week period tentatively scheduled to occur in mid-late August.

These pre-scheduled one-hour delays will be posted on DriveBC a few days in advance. In addition, motorists can expect occasional delays of between 30 and 45 minutes for rock blasting, from Monday through Saturday.
