Hike for Hospice happening June 24 at K2

The Hospice Society of the Columbia Valley invites you to be part of our fourth annual Hike for Hospice on Sunday, June 24 at the historic K2 Ranch south of Invermere (off Westside Road).

This event happens across Canada bringing hikers and walkers together to raise awareness and funds for Hospice. All proceeds raised by the hike remain in our community.

Experience the tranquility of this stunning private ranch while supporting the work of our Hospice Society by choosing one of two hikes: A 1.5-km walk around lovely McCarthy Lake, or an eight km round-trip hike to an equally beautiful lake on an easy forest trail. Each will be led by a knowledgeable guide who will point out interesting features along the way. Hikers on both trails will want to pack a “bring-your-own picnic lunch” to enjoy lakeside.

Registration and check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. there will be a tour of the historic barn, beautifully restored about a decade ago by late woodsmith Jeff Baltrus, and a short history of the ranch; at 10:30 the hike gets underway. All ages are welcome; rain or shine.

Paper butterflies will be available for those who wish to write the names of loved ones and friends they are hiking in support – or in memory of and carry with them along the way. When finished hiking they are invited to pin their butterflies on a memorial banner that will be hung in the Hospice office.

Registration is $15 for those 19 and older, $5 for ages 15-18, and free for youngsters 14 and under.

Online registration, collecting pledges and making donations in support of the hike can easily be done on our website.

Anyone unable to hike can register free online as a ‘virtual hiker’ and collect pledges that way.

Registration

Paper registration/pledge forms are also available throughout the Columbia Valley at the Radium Visitor Information Centre; Invermere Home Hardware, Circle Health Food, Hospice Office; Columbia Valley Chamber of Commerce; Fairmont Pizza & Ice Cream Parlour, Tony’s Greek Grill and Canal Flats Post Office. Hikers may register in person the morning of the hike.

The Hospice Society of the Columbia Valley is a not-for-profit charitable organization committed to creating compassionate communities through programming in the areas of End of Life Support, Bereavement Support and Public Education.
