Let this be a record year for local Legions

Letter to the Editor

With the recent murders of two Armed Forces personal, Patrice Vincent and Nathan Cirillo, many Canadians have found numerous ways to pay their respect/tribute to both men as well as show support for their families.

I observed the public line up along the highway. I observed numerous sport events pay tribute as well as a 14-year-old cadet in Coquitlam stand guard at a local cenotaph.

How can we in the Columbia Valley pay tribute to these two men? Royal Canadian Legions across Canada work hard to raise funds. These funds are put to good use in assisting our veterans. As a community this year let’s ensure that no poppies are returned.

Let this be a record year for our local Legions. Throughout Canada our Legions, I believe, raise over $2 million. Let this be our special community project this year as a way to pay tribute to fallen soldiers and veterans.

Let this also be our special tribute and recognition to both Patrice Vincent and Nathan Cirillo. It would be nice to see a sea of red walking the streets and in our schools during the next couple of weeks leading up to Remembrance Day.

S/Sgt. Marko Shehovac,

Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment
