Firebreak created in prescribed fire

On Thursday, April 25, Parks Canada fire crews successfully and safely ignited a 27 ha prescribed fire in the Sinclair restoration area of Kootenay National Park, near Radium Hot Springs.

Parks Canada is pleased with yesterday’s results. This fire has created a firebreak that will protect neighbouring communities, and will restore forest and grassland habitat for different species.

Crews will continue to monitor the area over the weekend until it is completely extinguished.

Some smoke may be visible and it is normal to see helicopters assisting with monitoring.
