RCMP handle youth ‘invasion’ of Windermere beaches
This Victoria Day long weekend, hundreds of youths “invaded” the private beach communities of Lake Windermere.
“We received numerous calls for service in the area caused by youths gathering, consuming liquor while being a minor, mischiefs, assistance to injuries, and a house party that got out of control,” reported Columbia Valley RCMP Cpl. L-P. Gendron-Fafard.
“Our officers handle each call with care and most of the youths complied with directions. When they did not, they received some lecturing, ‘time-outs’ in the back of police vehicles or violation tickets for liquor offences.”
Cpl. Gendron-Fafard said the business of corralling impaired youths can be frustrating.
“We don’t appreciate getting beers poured out on us. Although a frustrating situation on all sides, these gatherings resulted in no serious injuries nor youth being housed in our accommodations. We are appreciative of the efforts of all of our partners that assisted us throughout the weekend responding to those calls.”
