The world’s coolest golf tournament

The world’s coolest golf tournament returns to the Columbia Valley this January 11.

The Kinsmen Club of Windermere Valley present the 19th annual Snow Golf Tournament on the ice of Lake Windermere’s Taynton Bay, off Invermere’s Kinsmen Beach.

It only costs $35 a person for a day of unforgettable fun on one of the world’s most jaw-droppingly beautiful courses, and also help raise funds for the local causes supported by the Kinsmen Club.

For potential first-time players, the holes may be similar in length to a grass course, the greens are generally smaller and the ‘cups’ are much larger than the norm to compensate for the skip, bounce and zing of the usually icy conditions.

Consider finding three or more chums and sign up for a glorious day outdoors between the Rockies and Purcells.

Colour your balls, dress in layers to prepare for any winter conditions, consider ‘golf carts’ to lug your stuff and keep your eyes open for skaters, Nordic skiers, strollers, runners, ice fishers, dog walkers and eye-rubbing tourists trying to come to terms with the fact they’re seeing people golfing on the lake.

And top the day off at the nearby Station Neighbourhood Pub for prizes, results and re-caps.
