Three dead following derailment near Field

A freight train derailment near Field earlier this morning (Feb. 4) has claimed the lives of three people.

Golden RCMP is assisting the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) in investigating the Canadian Pacific Railway derailment, which occurred just after midnight.

Upon arrival at the site, officers discovered a train carrying grain hopper cars had derailed near the Spiral Tunnels in Yoho National Park.

Three people were found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not been confirmed, RCMP reported.

TSB is investigating along with the Employment Safety Standards Canada, RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.
