Two ranch wildfire held after united effort

A quick response by fire crews, property owners and neighbours April 17 halted a possible major wildfire from developing on the west side of the Columbia River southwest of Radium Hot Springs.
BC Wildfire Service, Radium Hot Springs Fire Department and area residents first responded to a grass fire on a lower Firlands Ranch pasture, which quickly spread to the adjacent Feldmann Ranch.
Neighbours helped neighbours help firefighters combat the spread of the fire, estimated by BC Wildfire Service as 30 hectares in size.
The tide of the battle turned when a helicopter water bomber arrived, one area resident told e-KNOW.
While some area residents helped fight the fire, others helped out ensuring the safety of livestock, while others spent the night monitoring the fire perimeter.
BC Wildfire Service is still listing the fire as out-of-control but area residents report it is being held despite powerful winds.
As of mid-afternoon (April 18) some rain was also starting to fall.
