Valley hot springs remain closed

Fairmont Hot Springs pool.

Two of the key tourism draws to the Columbia Valley and East Kootenay remain closed for different reasons.

Kootenay National Park’s Radium Hot Springs hot and cool pools remain closed for the safety of staff and visitors due to structural safety concerns in the wet hall.

The Spa and Wellness centre is open by appointment only.

Parks Canada’s website says the pools will be closed until ‘early February.’

Discussions on the street and in businesses last week showed that the closure is causing a sharp slowdown of business in the Village of Radium Hot Springs.

Fairmont Hot Springs Resort hot pool also remains closed

The Interior Health Authority (IHA) has requested additional technical information and calculations regarding sump and piping sizing for the main drains in the pools.

The exclusive hotel guest pool remains open.

An update is expected soon.
