Windstorm kept WFD hopping last night
Just before 10 p.m. August 2, Windermere and area was hit with a strong wind out of the west.
Members of the Windermere Fire Department responded to six scenes involving downed trees and four involving power lines.
Two involved trees falling on houses and one car; two had active sparking and flame while on scene; one caused a temporary blockage of Nelles Crescent; and two fell across roads, blocking Fairmont Street and on Copper Crescent.
“We’d like to extend a huge thank you to residents for their assistance and compliance with direction, and to BC Hydro and the RCMP for their quick responses and assistance,” the Regional District of East Kootenay stated on its Facebook page.
Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to stay inside when high winds strike, especially in the dark.
Also – remember to not only avoid falling trees, but also large branches and airborne pieces of personal property that can cause serious injury.
