Wood Lane watermain replacement set to begin

Residents and visitors in Windermere may notice some new safety signage in place as the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) prepares for construction on its Wood Lane Watermain Replacement Project.

“Our construction contractor TwinCon Enterprises is hoping to mobilize equipment on April 20 with construction set to get underway later that week,” said RDEK Engineering Manager Tom Smith.

“Once construction is underway later that week, the work will be taking place in the designated Right-of-Way. We will be working hard to minimize inconveniences; however, there may be traffic interruptions in the construction zone, so we are asking residents to please follow any posted signs or instructions from the construction crew.”

In addition to replacing approximately 950m of water main, the project will also include additional components such as curb stops, isolation valves, hydrants, and other related infrastructure.

Smith anticipates it will take a few days for the contractor to complete the pre-construction preparation before the directional drilling begins.

Temporary access may be required to areas adjacent to the construction zone and any residents who have property or landscaping in the Right-of-Way will need to have it removed prior to April 23.

The RDEK will be communicating directly with affected property owners.

It is expected there will be temporary water outages during construction, and depending on the length of the outage, temporary water will be provided.

“To ensure residents are kept up to date on the project, we will be providing construction updates on the project page and through our email group,” added Smith. Residents who have not already done so are encouraged to sign up for the RDEK’s Windermere email group or visit: https://engage.rdek.bc.ca/woodlane

The $1.44 million project is expected to be complete in early to mid-June.
