Art Group 75 show begins May 2

Cranbrook Arts Mini Update

New exhibit with the work of Art Group 75 begins Tuesday, May 2. This work is an eclectic collection of paintings by a group of Cranbrook citizens who meet regularly to share their love of the visual arts. Come and meet the artists at the reception May 8 from 2 -4 p.m.

The Graham Flatt watercolour retreat is fast approaching May 8 to 12. Graham will teach a skill each morning and then provide individual instruction throughout the day. Fee for the week, five days 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.; $350 for members $400 non-members. Register at the gallery. Graham receives rave reviews wherever he teaches in the world. It would be a shame to miss this opportunity!

Cranbrook Arts is pleased to add another felting Workshop to our May programming. Tuesday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manual Training Centre beside the Cranbrook Public Library. Come and make a beautiful custom felted wool hat with Barb Guillen. The birdhouses were a lot of fun last month.

Children’s workshops ‘Creating with Colleen’ are happening Pro D days Friday, May 5 and Friday, June 2 from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. Cost is $30 per session.

On May 27 and 28 our popular instructor, John de Jong, is back for small group acrylic instruction. Topic ‘Spring Flowers’ $150 for members, $170 non-members.

For June’s exhibit we invite work from and about First Nations.

AND if you would like to drop by the gallery and paint a 4’ x 4’ canvas with a monochromatic picture of something that reflects your heritage, please do. Everything is set up for you with instructions. Over 500 of these canvases are being created throughout Cranbrook through the month of May. The collective mural will be assembled partly before and during Sam Steele Days in Balment Park. This is a Canada 150 Project sponsored by Heritage Canada and the Sam Steele Society.
