At the Library

By Mike Selby

Cranbrook Public Library

We are now fine free! Your library membership is freedom to explore, learn and connect. Late fines shouldn’t get in your way. And now they won’t!

Need a gift idea? Help expand and maintain the library’s magazine collection by purchasing a magazine subscription on behalf of the Library! View the list of adoptable magazines and contact us at [email protected] or 250-426-0660 to get started! We’ll recognize your sponsorship on our magazine shelves, displaying your name, your business, or someone you wish to honour or remember.

Library Notes: In the late 1800s, library work was considered too strenuous and overwhelming for women; so much so that the Brooklyn Public Library raised funds to build a seaside rest home for female library workers who suffered “ill health, strain, and breakdowns.” This bizarre belief didn’t last long, and this “weaker” sex dominated the library field for the entire 20th century.
