Ballet Jörgen Canada presenting Swan Lake

Ballet Jörgen Canada brings the most renowned Classical Ballet, Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, to Key City Theatre February 21.

Bengt Jörgen, one of Canada’s most distinguished classical ballet choreographers is delighted to present Swan Lake across Canada so that everyone has the opportunity to see, experience and be touched by this most extraordinary of all ballets. This classical production is one of the most magical, beloved ballets—a story of true love, the union of two souls and the ultimate sacrifice to be set free.

Jörgen re-imagines Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet Swan Lake, setting it in the picturesque seascape of Nova Scotia’s Fortress of Louisbourg. Featuring lavish sets, incredible costumes and outstanding dancers, the moving performance showcases the extraordinary beauty of traditional ballet while also serving to reflect Canadian heritage.

Swan Lake was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1875–76. Despite its initial failure, it is now one of the most popular of all ballets. The story was fashioned from Russian folk tales and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse. The ballet was premiered by the Bolshoi Ballet on 4 March 1877 at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

Key City Theatre is thrilled to present this ballet in our 25th Anniversary season, which coincides with the 140th anniversary of the ballet.

As an added treat, local dancers from our many excellent dance schools are invited to participate in the performance as 18th Century Peasants and Children, Ladies in Waiting, Fortress Guards, Court Pages and Ballroom Attendants.  This is an exciting opportunity for our young dancers.

Don’t miss the beauty and passion of Swan Lake!

Tickets are $45 | $39 for Key City Theatre members.
Tickets are available at the Key City Theatre Box Office 250-426-7006 and online at www.keycitytheatre.com
