BC Transit stopping at 5 p.m. due to weather

Other city facilities closing

Due the worsening weather, BC Transit will be shutting down all transit services effective at 5 p.m. Thursday afternoon (Feb. 9), in an effort to ensure everyone can make it home safely from school and work.

Employers who have staff who use transit or perhaps have homes outside are asked to consider allowing those staff to leave work early.

Also because of the weather and in the interest of public safety, the City of Cranbrook is closing the Cranbrook Public Library, Western Financial Place, the Memorial Arena and the Kinsmen Arena due to the weather. The city will continue to monitor conditions and will determine when and if these facilities will reopen on Friday, February 10. Regardless of the weather overnight, the Aquatic Centre at Western Financial Place will remain closed until 11 a.m. on Friday.

Meantime, Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services is asking residents to be aware that many secondary streets in the city have narrowed considerably due to the snow and that significantly restricts the ability of firetrucks to reach homes. If you do park on the street, please make sure that enough space is left in the street to allow safe and easy passage of these trucks should an emergency arise.

Please continue to monitor local news, the city website and social media channels for updated information.
