Bowen Byram ranked top NHL prospect by THN

Cranbrook’s Bowen Byram is ranked by The Hockey News (THN) as the top up-and-coming prospect in the National Hockey League (NHL).

The fourth overall draft selection in 2019 by the Colorado Avalanche, Byram (second from left above) had been leading the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League back to another playoff race before COVID-19 slammed the lid on the season.

He was also a key piece on Team Canada’s blueline during its gold medal performance at this year’s World Junior Hockey Championship.

The latest honour for Byram was a close contest, with six other players receiving votes as the top NHL-affiliated prospect from the nine NHL scout selection committee, including Anaheim Ducks prospect Trevor Zegras and New York Rangers’ selection Igor Shesterkin.

The current issue of THN now on local magazine racks also has a lead feature story on Byram.

Winnipeg ICE (former Kootenay ICE) star Peyton Krebs, also selected in the first round last year, is ranked 19th in the annual top 100 prospects rankings.
