Bucks add two forwards at trade deadline

The Cranbrook Bucks added two forwards during the BC Hockey League (BCHL) trade deadline Jan. 10.

The fifth-place club acquired 2004 born forward Carter Schmidt from the West Kelowna Warriors in exchange for future considerations.

Schmidt has amassed two goals and three assists through 21 games with the Warriors so far this season. The Kelowna native also had four points in four games last season with West Kelowna in the Pod Season.

“Carter is a young player who we are excited to add to our group at this time,” said Bucks’ head coach and GM Ryan Donald. “He is a player that fits our team’s identity well in that he is competitive, plays fast and is a player that we believe can thrive within our program.  We are happy to have the chance to work with Carter in pursuit of his goal of playing college hockey.”

In a separate move, the Bucks added forward Jaden Fodchuk to its roster for the rest of the season. Fodchuk was previously an affiliated player with the Bucks appearing in two games this season. The 2003 born forward has spent most of the season with the Princeton Posse of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) collecting 19 goals and 12 assists for 31 points which is good for second in rookie scoring in that league.

“Jaden is a player that we are very familiar with from his time affiliating with us this season and during last year’s pod season,” said Donald. “Jaden is a competitive young man who is driven to improve every time that he is on the ice, and he has translated that into great success while with the Princeton Posse of the KIJHL.  We look forward to helping Jaden take the next step in his development here in Cranbrook.”

The trade deadline is now passed and with these moves, the Cranbrook Bucks have 23 on the roster with 14 forwards, seven Defencemen and two goalies.

The Bucks wish to welcome Carter and Jaden to the team and the City of Cranbrook.

NOTE: The Bucks game versus the Wenatchee Wild Thursday, January 13 has been postponed.

The Bucks game this Saturday vs the Trail Smoke Eaters is still a go! Puck drop at 7 p.m.
