Business offers reward for info on possible dog poisoner

A Cranbrook business is offering a $1,000 reward for information about who is behind the poisoning of dogs in the Community Forest on the heels of another dog dying after walking the Powerline Trail recently.

Top Crop Garden, Farm and Pet announced on Facebook it is “offering a $1,000 reward to anyone who knows anything or anyone involved with this. No questions asked. We just want to catch and stop whoever is doing this to our dogs. Private message this site.

Steeples Veterinary Clinic continues to alert the public about the ongoing dangers to dogs in the Community Forest.

“Just a reminder to please be very careful in the Community Forest, or avoid it all together. It is still not safe for dogs yet. Work is still being done to identify the poison, but regardless of what it is, it is still out there and still dangerous. Keep an eye out for mysterious substances around the south end, especially around the Powerlines Trail and report it immediate to us or the RCMP,” the clinic stated.

The clinic noted on Dec. 13 that people should keep an eye out for any animal carcasses (deer, elk, etc.), chunks of meat or bone, or mysterious substances altogether.

“In the event of suspicious substances, please mark the area and call either us (250-489-3451) or the local RCMP detachment. As of right now, there is still not enough information to establish whether this is accidental or malicious. We are asking the community to stay calm, but remain vigilant.

“We will be pursuing post mortem examinations and comprehensive toxicology screens determined by one of our veterinarians and will fill you in as any more vital information comes to light.”
