Captain Green’s final shift
Captain Gregory (GG) Green finished his last night shift this morning after serving the citizens of Cranbrook for over 20 years.
Captain Green served in various capacities and had served both as the Firefighters Association President as well as the President of IAFF Local 1253.
Captain Green will be remembered as a compassionate member that always looked out for the team and truly understood what it takes to be a public servant.
Congratulations brother, enjoy your retirement.
PS: He still makes the best cookies.
Gregory jotted down a few final thoughts he asked we pass on:
“As I wrap up my last shift at the hall, I jotted down a few thoughts that I would like to share and some thank yous
In no particular order:
1 – My family, for all their support and understanding for all those call outs and nightshifts.
2 – My union brothers and sisters locally, provincially, and internationally for their friendship and support and being part of the larger union community.
3 – Past employers, for the skills to prepare me for the challenges of this career.
4 – City staff, for their friendship and support while I was working for the City of Cranbrook.
5 – The business community, for making me feel welcome when I came for all those building inspections.
6 – The residents of the community for allowing me the privilege to serve you as a Cranbrook firefighter in your homes and community.
7 – The Hiring Committee, for seeing the potential in me to serve the community and providing me the opportunity.
8 – Fire hall staff past and present for your friendship, and your fire service mentorship that made me a better person.
9 – The Firefighter Association for allowing me to be a part of all the Association events from the fishing clinic to Sam Steele Retiree breakfast to the Fall Bash, it’s all been so rewarding and fun.
Finally, I like to say I was very proud to wear the uniform of Cranbrook Fire And Emergency Services. I was equally proud to be a public servant.
I have seen so much change in the job and the levels of responsibility from when I first started and I tip my hat to the next generation of men and women that will fill my shoes and take the department to the next level.
I will still say a prayer when I hear the wail of the sirens and hope for a safe return for all at the end of your shift.
See you around boys (and Mary Ann) … GG.
P.S. And yes I will still bring some baking around.
