CCT presents The Shoplifters starting April 28
Cranbrook Community Theatre (CCT) is proud to present The Shoplifters, a hilarious thought-provoking new play by Morris Panych, directed by Michelle McCue.
The Shoplifters is tremendously witty, following Alma, a seasoned shoplifter who attempts to teach her protégé Phyllis how to master the five-finger discount. It all goes awry when a security guard spots a steak falling out from one of their skirts. The play follows their antics as they try to outwit security.
Featuring a knock-out cast of some of the funniest actors in the Cranbrook circuit: Bob McCue, Brad McCue, Brenda Burley, and Emily Bohmer; this show is sure to delight theatre regulars and leave newcomers wanting for more.
Director Michelle McCue believes the play is particularly relevant, where inflation and rising food prices find more people struggling to make ends meet. The play’s hijinks and mayhem offer a humorous backdrop for this social commentary on capitalism in modern society.
As a proud member of the Canadian theatre community, Cranbrook Community Theatre is dedicated to supporting Canadian artists and showcasing their talent to local audiences. Written in 2015 with its cast of oddball characters, Panych’s comedy offers biting observations about society’s haves and have-nots and how much they might actually have in common.
Cranbrook Community Theatre is grateful to our sponsors, IG Wealth Management and Victoria Avenue Dental. We would also like to thank the Rick & Marg Jensen Foundation which has generously donated to our production.
The Shoplifters opens on April 28 and runs for nine performances, with shows on April 29, May 4-6, and May 10-13. There will also be a matinée performance on Sunday, May 7.
