CDBC paddles to silver medal at Penticton Festival

The Cranbrook Dragon Boat Club (CDBC) recently participated in the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival and received a silver medal in their division.

This is an amazing accomplishment for a team that was only formed three years ago.

Dragon Boat racing originated in China and its history goes back more than 2,000 years.  This is now one of the fastest growing team sports in the world.

Long, narrow boats hold 20-22 paddlers, a drummer, and a steers-person and complete a 500 metre race for the fastest time.

The local team is made up of men and women from 19 to 70+ years and they paddle on Monday and Wednesday evenings from May to September at JimSmith Lake.

They always welcome new members; no previous paddling experience is necessary.
