A change of plans for SOAR

Otis the Otter is at it again. There is a change of plans for the Soggy Otter Adventure Race (SOAR).

On October 15, SOAR will be changing gears from a triathlon based adventure to a group walk/hike, exploring the trails of JimSmith Lake with a few extra fun and unexpected surprises thrown in.

Otis is inviting the community to come out and join the organizers and volunteers of SOAR and support the Canadian Cancer Society. There will be a few fun activities and surprises along the walk with prizes to be won!

We will be meeting in the JimSmith Lake parking lot at 8:30 and the walk will start at 9 a.m. The Heid Out Restaurant and Brewhouse is providing Fisher Peak Brewing Company bags to the first 25 participants that join us at the park.

This event was intended as a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society and Otis intends to keep his promise to raise funds. Donations will be accepted at the park or can be dropped off at the Canadian Cancer Society office. All donations will go towards the programs and services provided by the Canadian Cancer Society.

Thank you to Patricia Rock, Emily Balfour, B104 The Drive, Go Cranbrook, Heidi Romich and The Heidout Resturant and Brewhouse staff for your support. This wasn’t the intended outcome and a tough decision to make. Will Otis try this again next year, probably not. He is making noise about joining the 2017 Kimberley Slopes For Hope committee and practicing his winter sports skills.

The Canadian Cancer Society is always looking for volunteers and community ambassadors to help us engage the community. As a volunteer and donor driven society your help is needed. Every dollar counts in our efforts to reduce the burden of cancer. Thanks to your donations we are able to fund the most promising cancer research, advocate for health-protecting policies and provide trusted information, resources and support to your community members.
