City banning all outdoor burning
The City of Cranbrook is suspending all outdoor burning as of noon today, July 7.
This campfire ban is a result of the exceptional weather that we are currently experiencing and the extremely dry conditions that have resulted. The ban includes all open fires of any size, including campfires, cooking fires and outdoor burning.
This prohibition does not include the ban of propane, natural gas or briquette fired cooking appliances, or to a CSA or ULC certified portable campfire device that uses propane, natural gas or briquettes.
The current fire danger rating for Cranbrook and area is considered extreme, according to the most recent data from the Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO) – Wildfire Service Branch. Forest fuels are extremely dry and the wildfire risk is very serious. New fires may start easily and burn vigorously and challenge fire suppression efforts.
