City begins culture reset at Western Financial Place

Recruitment for several key leadership positions within the Recreation and Culture department with the City of Cranbrook is now underway.

On June 11, the City of Cranbrook announced the temporary closure of the Aquatic Centre at Western Financial Place, citing staff shortages, for a variety of reasons. It was determined that the facility could not continue operating in a safe and effective manner, and these issues required the difficult decision be made to suspend operations until these issues could be corrected.

“Residents pay taxes for municipal services. As an organization we need to provide those services as effectively as possible. Accordingly, at times we must make changes or improvements as required,” said Mark Fercho, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Cranbrook. “We’ve taken the last month to undertake a very comprehensive review and subsequently made changes at Western Financial Place. We are now moving forward with recruiting a new leadership team to work with Director Paulsen to get our facility open and welcome the public back.”

A total of five leadership positions are now open for employment applications including GM Events and Venues, Operations and Events Manager, Aquatics and Programming Manager, Aquatics Supervisor, and Head Guard Aquatics. Additional aquatics leadership and lifeguard positions will also be advertised within the next few days.

“We are looking for qualified people to fill these important roles within our organization, and we welcome anyone who wants to be part of our team to apply,” said Stacy Paulsen, Director of Recreation and Culture. “This is a great opportunity to be part of building a strong foundation to move this department and our city forward into the future.”

Once these positions are filled and operations are underway, we look forward to welcoming all our patrons back to enjoy the facility and the amazing programming that will come with it.
