City updates Fees and Charges Bylaw for cost recovery

Changes to the City of Cranbrook’s Fees and Charges Bylaw, adopted by council Monday night, will help recover the costs of providing certain services and information to the public – both for the Cranbrook RCMP detachment and the municipality itself.

These fee changes are now in effect and will help ensure fees remain fair, consistent, and reflective of the true cost of providing services to the community.

These changes also reflect the ongoing effort by the city to continually ensure that our policies remain current and reflective of the services we provide to you.

The various administrative fees for police services from the Cranbrook RCMP include:

  • Disclosure: Increase from $50 to $65 to reflect staff time, as disclosure requests take approximately 60 minutes to complete.
  • Police Information Checks: Increase from $50 to $55 to reflect increased processing costs and align with rates in hub municipalities. Categories have been simplified to “Employment or Other” and “Volunteer.”
  • Fingerprinting: Increase from $50 to $55, to reflect increased processing costs and align with rates in comparable municipalities.
  • Fingerprinting (per copy): Fee removed as it is no longer required.
  • Printed Photographs/Images: Updated to $0.25 per digital image plus $10 per CD or USB.
  • Documents (Photocopies and Printouts): Updated to $1.00 per page for disclosure packages over 60 pages (up to 60 pages included in the $65 Disclosure fee).

Changes to administrative fees for general City of Cranbrook services include:

  • Tax Certificate: Increase from $25 to $35 to reflect increased processing costs.
  • NSF Service Charges: Increase from $25 to $30 to reflect increased processing costs.
  • Administrative Charge on Recoverable Work (20%): New fee to reflect cost of processing recoverable charges.
