Saturday, November 3 at 10 a.m. marks the opening of the 27th annual Artisan Bazaar hosted by the Cranbrook Club of the Canadian Federation of Women.

“We are rather excited although at this point, there is still a lot of work to do,” admitted Bazaar chair, Cathryn Henley. We have 30 East Kootenay artisans slated to go, 17 of whom are new to our Bazaar. It is exciting for me; I have a list of what I need to buy for family and friends,” said Henley.

Each year is different, with this one offering Doukhabor borscht and bread, Pan forte (a traditional confection from Tuscany), natural food stuffs, Majestic mustards, cards, canvas paintings, sun catchers, creams and lotions, Arts Council Calendars, and something the club is excited about is our own table at which we will be selling Café Femenino Coffee which is not only organic, bird and tree friendly Fair Trade coffee, but also produced by women in Peru.

We have been able to bring back our many artisans who sell jewelry of all kinds, as well as new faces to the Bazaar who create fine work from funky items to silver and gold with and without semi-precious stones, beaded and woven. Area Artisans who are returning to the CFUW Bazaar sell pottery, knitting, crocheted works, wool creations, sewing items from baby clothes to purses, paintings, photography, home sweet home type treats, honey, chocolate, soaps, handmade paper crafts, stained glass works, raku, and much more.

Doors open promptly at 10 a.m. A $2 entrance fee not only allows you to shop, but to win one of the 30 raffle prizes the artisans have generously donated to the raffle table. Be sure to stop by and look at the items; one of which you might be the winner of!

Proceeds from these artisans go to the Scholarship and Bursary programs the CFUW-Cranbrook Club has set up with the Mount Baker Secondary School and the College of the Rockies. These monies are for East Kootenay women who want to pursue post-secondary and further education. We are most grateful for the support of the local artisans for choosing our Bazaar to showcase their creations and certainly encourage all Cranbrook and area residents to come out and support these local crafters. “It is a circle type gift from the community and back again,” explained Henley. “The crafters support our club, we in turn support the women in our community, and they support the artisans who can then afford to support us next year!”
