Cranbrook continues as Age Friendly City

On Saturday, June 19, Cranbrook celebrated its continued designation as an Age Friendly City. A booth was set up beside city hall, and grab bags stuffed full of items from our age friendly recognized businesses.

Following World Health Organization and federal/provincial initiative, an age friendly community is one in which the policies, services and structures, including the physical and social environments, supports people of all ages and abilities to age actively. In other words, the community is set up to help seniors live safely, enjoy good health and stay involved. It allows not only seniors but people of all abilities to continue to live happy, healthy and as independent as possible lives.

As a committee of the United Way, Cranbrook Age Friendly works with other social organizations and local government to support seniors in our community. We currently run an over the phone social connections group (Senior Centre Without Walls), a weekly drop-in information service at the Seniors Hall, Age Friendly Business Recognition, Monthly Seniors Page and a website with a complete resource directory and a monthly seniors newsletter.

If you are interested in any of our programs, sitting in on our monthly committee meetings or joining Senior Centre Without Walls, please contact Hannah at 250-432-9185 or [email protected].

Thank you Cranbrook for your continued support and dedication to age friendly living!
