Dogs being poisoned in Community Forest

It appears that someone might be poisoning dogs (and possibly other animals) in Cranbrook’s Community Forest.

A Facebook post this morning by Top Crop Garden, Farm & Pet warns followers to “be aware that some poor dogs have been poisoned up walking in the community forest. It seems someone has baited some meat/ fat with a very toxic poison and dogs are ingesting it and dying. So please, please watch your puppies. Keep them close. Our hearts go out to those people who have lost their buddies. What a sad thing to happen.”

Cranbrook RCMP Detachment Commander S/Sgt Hector Lee said police received a call about it this morning and the Regional District of East Kootenay has also been informed.

“We don’t have a lot of details right now to suggest this is criminal. Our folks are looking into it to see if what is happening is intentional,” he said.

Thus far it has been reported that two dogs have died from poisoning. The suspected substance is a white matter and the poison is highly toxic.
