Donate glasses and change someone’s life

World Sight Day is this Thursday, October 11. This year the Cranbrook Public Library is helping the Cranbrook Lions Club with its Recycle for Sight program. The Lions Club has been helping people all over the world with eye care since 1917, and this year their focus is on eyeglass donations.

Donate a pair of glasses and change someone’s life. Imagine if you could help a child read. An adult succeed in his job. A senior maintain her independence. And provide a community with more opportunities to grow and thrive.

The World Health Organization’s reports that 253 million people in the world live with some type of vision impairment. Blindness and partial sight affect almost one million Canadians. While this number is unfortunately way too high, over 80% of all moderate to severe vision impairment can be treated or cured. This is where you can help out.

In just about any home, one can find a pair of eyeglasses that are no longer being used. That same pair of eyeglasses can change another person’s life. Recycled glasses are distributed by the Lions Club to people in need in low and middle income communities where they will have the greatest impact.

So this Thursday bring your used eyeglasses down to the Cranbrook Public Library and make a real difference in someone’s life.
