Election signs being targeted by vandals

The City of Cranbrook reports it has been receiving reports of municipal election election being damaged or stolen.

This activity has been reported to the Cranbrook RCMP. If you find damaged signs or see active vandalism or theft of election signs happening, report it immediately to the RCMP at 250-489-3471.

Regardless of how you feel about them, political signage is an important part of the election process and protected by law. These signs are not your property – they belong to the candidate and their campaign, the city pointed out.

Please respect candidates’ campaign materials. Damaging, destroying, or removing signs may constitute an offence under section 430 of the Criminal Code.

Any issues with election signage placement, please report it to Bylaw Services by calling 311. Do better, Cranbrook.
