Four scholarships available; apply now
By Dan Schellenberg
The Cranbrook Sunrise Club is happy to announce that it will once again be awarding scholarships for the upcoming post-secondary school year. Scholarship committee chair, Alex McLeod, says that four $1,500 scholarships will be awarded this year. There is always one scholarship set aside for Fine Arts with the others subject to the Committee’s discretion.
The applications are due on September 6.
The applicant must have graduated from Mount Baker Secondary School or some other school in Cranbrook, such as, a private or home school. Also, the applicant must be in third, fourth or fifth year of an undergraduate program at any recognized post-secondary institution.
Alex notes that “we have sent scholarships to many different places in the world. We are impressed with the quality of the applicants, which gives testament to the calibre of our school system in Cranbrook.”
Judging is based on volunteerism, academic merit and financial need. Funds for the awards are generated from two notable Cranbrook Sunrise Rotary Club annual fundraisers, being the Gran Fondo and the Rocky Mountain Film Festival. Alex says that having available funds from the fundraisers gives us an opportunity to give back to students while helping them defray the costs of their education.
