Free live music in Cranbrook August Long Weekend

Brent Halliday

The Fisher Peak Performing Artists Society (FPPAS) volunteers have prepared a great line up of live music for Cranbrook families and visitors on the August long weekend.

The free community Summer Sounds concert is presented at Rotary Park from 6 to 10 p.m. and features three acts with food vendors and a beer garden supplied and serviced by Fisher Peak Brewing Company.

On Saturday, July 30, the show will be opened by Brent Halliday at 6 p.m. Halliday was born in Creston and picked up a guitar at age 19. He is self-taught with a brief experience in a band in his late 20s. Brent has always had an interest in writing songs and continues to experiment with song writing for years. Now in his 40s, he is learning about recording and enjoying live performances. His original song “Greed” was entered into this year’s CBC National Searchlight competition.

Sean Michael

At 7 p.m., Sean Michael takes over the Rotary Park stage. This artist is a rare find in a busy world. 100% original, Michael draws from a deep well of experience. It may be said that Roger Whittaker, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, and Neil Young sat at a table one night and put this guy together. Unique in his own right, Michael forms a clear and personal relationship with his audience. Carefully woven words invoke an emotional journey. Sean Michael is known to coach his audience into participation making the experience a moment to remember.

Then, bringing the event to a hopping dance party is local favourite Pretty for the People (pictured above) at 8 p.m.

This fistful of five talented artists first met fighting fires in northern B.C. and have quickly ramped up to the top of the rock scene in Cranbrook. Sarah, Graham, Janice, Mark, and Ward bring years of rock wisdom to their shows. The band focuses on producing inspiring interpretations of favourite covers from AC/DC and Ozzy Osbourne to The Pretenders and current tracks. Don’t be surprised by the fun you will have when Pretty for the People hit the stage!

This concert is proudly sponsored by Spring Honda, a company with deep roots in the community and who know that their team can only win when their customer wins. If it matters to you, it matters to them. Additional program funding comes from the Columbia Basin Trust through the Regional District of East Kootenay and would not be possible without program partners, volunteers and a boatload of talented artists.

The public is reminded to bring their water bottles, chairs, and blankets. Rotary Park is a public place where the City of Cranbrook’s Clean Air Bylaw No. 3940 applies. Smoking or vaping is prohibited to protect the health and safety of everyone.
