Gran Fondo early bird deadline approaching

Registration for the increasingly popular Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo (KRGF) is nearing 80% of the 500 rider cap.

The registration increase is mainly from Southern Alberta, but more riders are coming from afar; North Vancouver, Burnaby, Chillwack, Saskatoon, Manitoba and two from Switzerland.

Take it from a pro cyclist.

Tristen Chernove, a Cranbrook local and world-class rider who inspires everyone with his passion for riding stated,“There’s constant inspiration when you ride here, so little traffic, big mountain views in every direction and a world-class, well executed event.

“This event is so unique, not just the incredible beauty, but the ability for riders who enjoy fast-paced riding through rolling terrain, make it a stand-out on the Gran Fondo circuit,” said the 2016 World Track Champion, in the individual pursuit and kilo events and gold medal winning Canadian Paralympian.

Cranbrook Sunrise Rotarian, Glenn Dobie, KRGF chair, says the event has become remarkable on so many levels.

“It is not only that we are very proud of all the volunteers and local businesses who support the Gran Fondo and that we are support so many local community projects, but we also believe the Fondo has served as a powerful incentive for many recreational cyclists in our community to challenge themselves to participate in the event and to assist them in leading a healthier lifestyle,” he said.

All participants receive a commemorative Dri Fit t- shirt, a classic water bottle, continental breakfast, Cliff bar, five Nutritional Aid stations, post ride buffet and mobile mechanical and medical assistance.

Register at krgf.ca to be eligible to win two fabulous prizes: Two nights accommodation at the St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino (host hotel) and/or two flights Cranbrook – Vancouver (courtesy Pacific Coastal Airlines).
