HUB for Refugees hosting fundraiser June 9

The Cranbrook HUB for Refugees is planning a fundraising dinner/dance on June 9 at the Colombo Lodge to help it continue in its work.

“We have had our second refugee family of five from Ethiopia since the last week of October 2017. They lived in a Refugee Camp for 10 years before coming to Cranbrook. The family was vetted by the United Nations and the Government of Canada,” said Cranbrook HUB for Refugees member Mark Spence-Vinge. “There are over 65 million refugees in the world with an average length of stay being 17 years. The children are in school and the parents are taking English classes five days a week.”

Local businesses and individuals have been generous in providing items for the event’s silent auction, too.

James Neve and The Choice will be performing during the event.
