I hate the word tribe

I hate the word ‘tribe.’

I am sick of it.

Lately, it’s a word that many grown women have been using on their social media.

Listen, it doesn’t sound like you have friends. It sounds like you are an exclusive jerk who is playing mean girl at middle school. You may as well call your tribe; The Girl Club and not include the girl whose mom didn’t have enough money to buy her a B.U.M equipment sweatshirt from Warehouse One.

It is icky. It is snotty. It is gross.

We need to stop it.

All of us.

If you are really a human being that includes everyone and wants to see all women be successful, then we have to quit using the word tribe. It makes others feel left out. It also makes those who are in your tribe feel like they cannot be friends with anyone who is not ‘in’ your tribe.

Wow. Try saying that last sentence three times fast.

Whew.

Anywho…

Quit using that word.

M’kay.

Same with you Taylor Swift and your stupid “squad.”

I mean kudos to you for actually being creative and picking a word that is not “tribe.” But it still reeks of a bunch of Hollywood ladies in their 20s who look down on everyone else, mostly because they are so damn tall, but also because they are not “good” enough to be in their squad.

Plus, it hurts my feelings. Because it makes me want to be in your squad.  And I can’t be in your squad.

Can I Taylor?

Can I?

Not nice, Ms. Swift. You big meanie.

So are we all on the same page here?

Let’s quit naming things.

It is irritating.

Now excuse me, I have to go and hang out with my friends who are also known as ‘The Ya Yas,’ ‘Housewives,’ ‘Book Group’ and ‘Sisters.’

Shit.

Wait a minute.
