Improved Gyro Park playground ready for play

After three weeks of work and preparation, the new playground equipment is in place at Gyro Park and ready for the kids to explore.

City of Cranbrook Public Works crews were busy laying the playground base of wood chips on Tuesday, with the site being tidied and the final safety inspection being completed on Wednesday.

Installation of the playground equipment completes the overall upgrades to Gyro Park, thanks to the Columbia Basin Trust’s (the Trust) Recreation Infrastructure Grant program. The Trust grant of $120,000 makes up the lion’s share of the overall project budget of $180,000, which included the upgrades to the Gyro Park tennis courts and construction of the four new pickleball courts. Those were officially opened by the city and the Trust in late July.

The area where the old playground equipment was located will remain roped off as the site has been reseeded. The public is asked to please stay outside of that area, so the new grass has a chance to establish.
