Keep the Doors Open campaign returns

The Friends of the Cranbrook Women’s Resource Centre is a standing committee of Community Connections Society of Southeast BC and it is our purpose to support the Women’s Resource Centre through fundraising opportunities.

CWRC20081The Women’s Centre works to improve the status of women and their families through direct service provision and by advocating for social and systemic change. Direct Service provision includes lay counseling, referrals, workshops, emergency supplies, safety options and more. The Women’s Centre has a long history in Cranbrook and has provided support for thousands of women and their families.

The Friends of the Women’s Centre began the work of supporting the centre in January of 2011 and has raised funds to help keep the doors of the Women’s Resource Centre on 13th Avenue open.

In 2012 we started a funding campaign called ‘Keep the Doors Open’ and this year 2014 we are inviting everyone to consider being a part of this strategy.

On a yearly basis it costs $50,000 or more to run the Women’s Resource Centre. This money is raised through various means such as grant writing and fundraising events like ‘Walk a Mile in her Shoes,’ which raised $15,000 last June through individual, business and community support.

The Keep the Doors Open campaign will be successful if 365 persons donate $137 (cost to keep the doors open for one day) to this campaign the doors of the Women’s Centre would remain open for another year and it may also mean that the centre could provide more programming for the females in and around this community. Keep a lookout for the start-up of the ‘Keep the Doors Open’ campaign and throughout 2014.
