Key City Theatre unveils season lineup

By Erin Knutson

The Key City Theatre (KCT) hosted a sneak peek of its upcoming lineup for the 2022/2023 season Wednesday (June 22) at its downtown location in Cranbrook.

Before presenting patrons with a glimpse at the season’s entertainment, guests were treated to drinks and snacks at the free event.

“We’ve had a wonderful response, and I’m just really grateful for everyone being here tonight,” said KCT Managing Director Galen Olstead.

After thanking KCT’s team, Brenda Burley, manager of events and development and Will Huxtable, technical director, for their hard work and dedication to the evening, he thanked numerous other staff members, volunteers and the theatre’s board of directors.

He also thanked various sponsors that contribute annually to the running of the performing arts centre.

“We have amazing support from School District No. 5, the City of Cranbrook, the City of Kimberley, Western Financial Group, Prestige Rocky Mountain Resort, Selkirk Signs, the Heid Out, Restaurant and Brewhouse, as well as the Columbia Basin Trust, the Regional District of East Kootenay Area C, BC Arts Council, Heritage BC and Creative BC,” he said.

Olstead dove into an overview of talent to be showcased live for the first time since the pandemic as he announced the categories for the season, including the Homegrown, Spotlight, Family, and the Discovery Series.

The diverse entertainment roster spanning from Burlesque – A Love Affair to Hotel California will take to the stage at Key City’s expansive theatre over the coming year in what will be a celebration of the return of live theatre events, according to Olstead.

“This is a celebration, following the past two years for performing arts,” he said.
