Kin Club’s dedication to community recognized

More people will get a helping hand now that Cranbrook’s Kinsmen Club has received a $25,000 Community Gaming Grant from the B.C. government.

“The Kin Club here in Cranbrook has provided our community with immeasurable opportunities. They are dedicated to serving our community’s greatest needs as well as providing our area with community building events, such as the free public skating, which we have enjoyed over the past 20 years,” stated Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett.

Community Gaming Grants help local groups provide important services for B.C. families.

Across British Columbia, 294 recipients will share $6,272,130 in the latest round of grants.

Recipients in this round of grants include programs for Human and Social Services.

“The gaming money means a great deal to our Kin Club and the community. The most visible benefit from the gaming funds is the annual free public skating that we have been running for more than twenty years. But, behind the scenes we provide four scholarships and bursaries, and many miscellaneous donations throughout our community,” said Kinsmen president Mike Paugh.

Community Gaming Grants allow non-profit organizations to apply for provincial gaming revenues.

Last fiscal year, in 2011/12, our government distributed $135 million in gaming grants for eligible community programs and services.

More than 5,300 community groups benefited from funding during 2011/12.
