Legendary guitarist Jesse Cook coming

Acclaimed Canadian based guitarist, composer, and producer Jesse Cook will include the Kootenays in his British Columbia ‘Beyond Borders’ tour this October.

In support of his latest album ‘Beyond Borders,’ Cook will make stops at Nelsons’s Capitol Theatre on October 3, followed by a date at the Key City Theatre in Cranbrook on Oct. 4. Both are 7:30 p.m. show times.

Living up to the album’s title, the JUNO Award-winning musician’s latest record explores a sonic landscape unfettered by geography, ethnicity and musical styles, to forge a unique world music hybrid which Cook has become famous for. ‘Beyond Borders’ is however, the most sonically diverse and distinctive disc in Cook’s vast and varied catalogue, which has earned him more than ten Juno nominations over the years. This all-new show is a must-see for his legion of fans, featuring his new music mixed with a collection of old favourites.

Cook has recorded nine studio albums thus far, three live DVDs, two PBS TV specials, and has travelled the world exploring musical traditions that he has blended into his style of uplifting rumba flamenco.

In addition to headlining concerts and festivals he has appeared on the same stage with B.B. King, Ray Charles, and Diana Krall. He has also performed with Welsh soprano Charlotte Church on NBC’s Tonight Show, and toured with the popular Irish band, The Chieftans. He has sold over 1.5 million albums worldwide.

“There are many borders in our lives. Some, others have built, some we create ourselves. Whenever I ventured beyond the borders of my life, I have been the better for it. I grew up in the cold war, in a world of walls and borders. But then people began to change the way they thought,” Cook said.

“The walls came down. Europe united, and people began thinking of themselves as global citizens. The rising nationalism of today is exploiting our differences, not celebrating them. We are back to building walls, and I don’t want any part of it. Humanity, artistry, joy and of course, love…these things don’t stop at some line on the map. If music is the universal language maybe there is something it can teach us? Music has a way of touching your soul, and every tradition on earth has its own way of doing that.”

Tickets for Jesse Cook’s BEYOND BORDERS tour, will go on sale on Friday April 20 at the Key City Theatre Box office, in Cranbrook, or you can purchase tickets by phone at 250-426-7006, or online at www.keycitytheatre.com. In Nelson, tickets will be available at the Capitol theatre box office, Tuesday to Friday from noon-4:30 p.m. or call 250-352-6363 or online at capitol theatre.bc.ca.

The Beyond Borders Tour with guitar virtuoso Jesse Cook, LIVE in Concert with his all-star band, is a presentation of the Kootenay Concert Connection.
