Local wins third straight Montana barrel racing championship

Cranbrook is home to a very talented young barrel racer, Tamara Zaugg and her horse Cash’s Redman.

Davianna Haslam, also of Cranbrook, bred, raised and trained Cash’s Redman, giving Tamara an opportunity to compete on a quality quarter horse.

On October 1, with family and fellow competitors cheering her on, Tamara won the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) Montana Youth State Championship, for the third year in a row, which makes her eligible to enter the NBHA World Championship. Quite an accomplishment for a 12-year-old girl.

The NBHA has over 23,000 in membership and is the largest barrel racing organization in the world, with 12 countries as well as the USA. It also has all ages competing in specified categories.

All of Tamara’s competing is made possible by her supportive parents, Tony and Monica Zaugg, and family, friends and fellow barrel racers urging her on, to help her strive for her goals.
