Male arrested after assaulting police officers
A Cranbrook resident remains in custody after assaulting two police officers outside the East Kootenay Regional Hospital early Sunday morning.
Early April 29 Cranbrook RCMP was called to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for a report of a male with a knife attempting to gain entry to the hospital. Security had locked the doors to keep the male from entering and injuring anyone inside the building.
RCMP attended and noted the larger male had a knife in his hand. He was directed to drop the knife and get on the ground and he initially complied. Once police began to approach the male he got up with the knife and again approached the hospital doors.
“Numerous police options were used but the male continued to fight with police, by kicking scratching and punching the officers. The male was eventually subdued and taken into custody,” reported Cst. Katie Forgeron of Cranbrook RCMP.
The 36-year-old Cranbrook resident remains in custody and will be going to court later this afternoon. Police are requesting charges of Assault Police, Resist Arrest and Possess Weapon dangerous to the public.
Cranbrook RCMP are continuing to investigate this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the RCMP at 250-489-3471.
