New programming at Cranbrook Arts

As many have noticed Cranbrook Arts has expanded its operations in their new building 1401 Art Space, located on Kootenay St. and 5th St N.

This coming Saturday, February 6 we invite you become a sculptor in one day. Eveline Weiler will introduce a medium that is new to Cranbrook and as a certified instructor Eveline is excited to introduce this art form.

You will learn how to make a beautiful garden sculpture from an old t-shirt in just one day.  Using Paverpol (pictured right), electrical wire, tin foil and the t-shirt, you will create a sitting figure in black.  Apply the finishing highlights and voila …. you are an artist.  After a few weeks of drying indoors, your statue is ready for the outdoors and completely weatherproof for all seasons!

Eveline’s sculptures can be seen at Cranbrook Arts Gift Shop on Baker St. She assures us everyone can do this and to make your first attempt easy, Eveline has prepared the basic armature for you. You will work on creating the individuality of your project.

On Wednesday, February 5 Yvonne has added a card making evening in time for Valentine’s Day. These are beautiful cards using grown-up skills although teens are welcome. All supplies included. 6-9 p.m. Registration is required for all workshops.

On the following Saturday, February 15 Barb Guillen will be making felted slippers.  Barb’s classes provide a great workout and send you home with beautiful products. This is the first time Barb has offered slipper making.

On Tuesdays Cranbrook Arts provides the space for creative play and some social time for care givers and children alike.

Melissa Peters got this program off the ground for us and she is now joined by Chris Brewster, a qualified volunteer with a wealth of experience from the City of Calgary’s Art Programming. Tots on Tuesdays is a Drop-In program with no need to register. Just come along to this relaxed program.

The coffee will be on, snacks and crafts provided for the tots. Our instructors are excited to share their creativity.
