New wave of graffiti impacting local businesses

Cranbrook has once again seen a surge of graffiti tagging, with another recent wave of the word “seko” appearing in multiple locations across town.

“These markings are more than just spray paint, they are an unnecessary and costly burden on our local businesses, property owners, and ultimately, our entire community,” stated Cranbrook RCMP Detachment commander S/Sgt. Barry Graham.

“Every time a storefront, fence, or public space is vandalized, carries significant impact for our business community and property owners who are left to absorb cleaning and repair costs.

“These expenses can be substantial, straining small businesses and diverting resources away from serving customers, maintaining store fronts and contributing to the vitality of our community.”

Under the Criminal Code of Canada, graffiti is considered mischief to property, which is a chargeable criminal offence. Individuals convicted can face serious legal consequences, including fines, probation, and even jail time.

Cranbrook RCMP is seeking the public’s help.

If you recognize the individuals in the photo or have information regarding who may be responsible for the “SEKO” tag, please contact the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471.
