October is Community Living Month

October is designated as Community Living Month in B.C. – a time taken to applaud the accomplishments and contributions of people with diverse abilities and to celebrate inclusion in Cranbrook and the wider community.

Community Living organizations throughout B.C. work for inclusivity for all citizens – so everyone is welcome and can contribute to the community they love and call home.

Various organizations in Cranbrook and throughout B.C. do this by:

Teaching and modelling life and employment skills – programming opportunities are offered such as cooking classes, safety classes, and skill training to become better employees. Services are designed to fit the needs and desires of people with diverse abilities.

Working with businesses to welcome employees with diverse abilities – job coaching is offered by agencies to ensure those who desire a job have the support to be successful.

Encouraging community involvement through volunteering – people with diverse abilities love their community and want to give back and make Cranbrook a better home.

Assisting supported individuals to access all the recreational opportunities Cranbrook has to offer – Cranbrook and the surrounding area is an amazing place with diverse cultural attractions. We contribute by providing transportation and assistance in outings throughout the area.

Self-Advocacy – agencies encourage everyone to advocate for their rights and assist those who do not have their own voice.

Cranbrook is a welcoming community and that makes a huge difference in the lives of everyone who lives here – no matter their ability.

Thank you to everyone who supports Community Living agencies and to all who include everyone into our community – it makes us a stronger, more vibrant community!
