RCMP find operator of burnt out vehicle

UPDATE – 1 p.m. Dec. 1: Cst. Katie Forgeron reports “the driver has been located and is fine!”

Cranbrook RCMP is concerned about the well-being of the driver of a vehicle that has been destroyed by fire and is asking for the public’s assistance to determine his or her whereabouts.

Early this morning, Cranbrook RCMP was called to a report of a motor vehicle on fire near Ha Ha Creek Road. Front line RCMP officers attended and were unable to locate anyone around the vehicle or in the immediate area.

Investigators have determined the license plates attached to the vehicle involved were out of Ontario and the vehicle was believed to be a Mitsubishi Lancer.

RCMP has been unable to locate the driver of the vehicle to ensure they are safe.

“We are asking anyone who was in the area and saw the incident or picked up a pedestrian in the area between the hours of 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. to give us a call. If you are the owner or were the driver of the vehicle, we would like to ensure you are safe and not in need of medical attention,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron.

Cranbrook Detachment is asking anyone who might have information to contact them at 250-489-3471.
