RCMP respond to firearm pointing event
Cranbrook RCMP is currently seeking witnesses to a firearm pointing event that occurred last night.
At approximately 10 p.m., July 20, Cranbrook RCMP received a report of a male passenger in a black Ford truck pointing a firearm at a pedestrian in the 1400 block of Ridgeview Road. The men were known to each other, and a broadcast of the suspect and vehicle description was disseminated to police officers in Cranbrook and surrounding areas.
Shortly before midnight members of the Kimberley RCMP Detachment observed the suspect vehicle in Kimberley and conducted a traffic stop, locating and arresting the suspect.
A subsequent search warrant executed jointly by the members of the Cranbrook and Kimberley RCMP on the suspect vehicle and a residence in Kimberley resulted in the recovery of a firearm, ammunition, suspected drugs, and a prohibited weapon.
“Cooperation and coordination between the members of the Cranbrook and Kimberley detachments led to the suspect in this incident being quickly and safely apprehended, and a number of dangerous items being seized by police,” said Sgt. Stu Hert of Cranbrook RCMP.
The suspect will be making an initial court appearance on July 21.

“We are continuing our investigation into this matter and are requesting that anyone who observed this event or may have dash cam video from the time and location in question come forward,” added Hert.
