RCMP urge residents to secure homes and property

During the early morning of September 14, Cranbrook RCMP responded to an emergency call reporting an intruder inside a residence in the 900 block of 29th Avenue South.

The homeowner was inside the residence at the time of the break and enter.

Officers attended the scene immediately, cleared the residence, and engaged the Police Dog Service (PDS) unit initiating an extensive search and patrols. The suspect was not located and the investigation remains ongoing.

This incident highlights the critical importance of securing your home and property at all times even when you are inside. Criminals often look for quick and easy opportunities to enter through an unlocked door, window, garage, or even a pet door.

Police strongly urge all residents to:

  • Lock all exterior doors, day and night, even when at home.
  • Lock garages, sheds, and vehicles to reduce easy access.
  • Check and secure pet doors and other potential points of entry.

Implementing prevention steps, such as consistently locking doors, can significantly reduce your chances of being targeted. Cranbrook RCMP encourages the public to continue to report any suspicious activity.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact the Cranbrook RCMP 250-489-3471
