Report issued about multiple drug poisonings

A Cranbrook-based group Harm Reduction Saves Lives late yesterday reported an overdose death along with four other people being poisoned in the city.

“I just got off the phone with a colleague who informed me there were five accidental drug poisonings linked to cocaine last night (July 3) in Cranbrook. Unfortunately, one person didn’t survive,” Harm Reduction Saves Lives’ administrator stated.

“The safest thing to do is not use; however, if you plan on using, the following things can help you stay safe and possibly alive,” the site said, adding some cautionary advice.

“Use with a friend and stagger your use. If you’re with people and you all use back-to-back from the same bag, this could be problematic if overdoses should occur. If you are overdosing at the same time, it could have a deadly outcome.

“Know how to use and carry Naloxone (better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it).

“Test your dope (either with a fentanyl test strip or an FTIR Spectrometer – both available at ANKORS in Cranbrook).”
